Different Types of Welding Services for Industrial Fabrication:

I do not think that in today’s world it is possible to carry a normal life if it wasn’t for the industries and various manufacturing companies we have. These companies produce various things which make life so simple for us. These industries use the process of fabrication to customise various products, and these products are then used to producing other products or serve as a structure or a resource for various thing. The industrial fabrication is not possible without mixing two pieces of metals, i.e., Welding.

Welding is the process of merging two pieces of metals. Welding is one of the most important things in the fabrication process. The formed and machined parts are welded for checking the accuracy of the product. The heat and energy released during the process of welding make the two pieces of metal to melt and stick together when the metal re-solidifies.

Let us now take a look at different types of welding services and their applications.

Since there are many conditions and requests to weld different pieces and sizes of metal together, there are various types of welding services. Some metals need to be very delicately welded to for the correct shape while other metal pieces may be quite large and need a stronger weld to hold the two pieces together.

The following are some of the types of welding services:

  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
  • Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)
  • Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
  • Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
  • Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)
  • Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW):

The Shielded Metal Arc Welding is also known as stick welding. The stick refers to the electrode that is coated with a protective flux. An electric arc is created, and the electricity makes the electrodes slowly melt away, and it also melts the metals which need to be joined.

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW):

The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) is also known as the TIG welding. Tungsten is used to weld the metals together in this process. Unlike the SMAW process, the electrode used does not melt away in the process.

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW):

The Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) also known as the MIG welding has wire electrode which gets fed to the welding machine. Gasses like argon and Carbon dioxide are also sprayed on the welding to prevent it from getting contaminated.

Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW):

The Flux-Cored Arc Welding is quite similar to the MIG welding, but it uses a unique tubular wire that is filled with flux. The flux used in this process protects itself from the welding. A shielding gas is not used to protect the welding.

Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW):

The Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) uses electrode with is consumable, and it gets fed automatically. It uses a granular flux which consists of silica, lime, calcium fluoride and manganese oxide. These granular fluxes submerge into the welding thus protecting the welding area.
